The characteristics and richness of wine produced from Verdelho grapes will vary according to the climatic and growing conditions and the wine-making techniques used. The wine is usually aromatic, coloured, high in alcohol with a palate which can be rich, herbaceous, spicy and nutty with tropical fruit flavours.
Eyes: Pale gold with green edges
Nose: Lifted tropical and citrus aromas with hints of spice.
Mouth: A medium bodied palate with layers of ripe tropical fruits and melon, finishing with a zippy acidity with hints of honeysuckle and spice.
Recommended food pairings: Thai fish cakes
Winemaker: Liz Silkman
Winemaking notes: The grapes are crushed and pressed, with the first 500 liters per tonne extracted as free run juice. Both the free run juice and pressing are cold settled and fermented separately. After fermentation the wines are clarified, and a portion of the pressing is blended back into the free run wine to produce a richer palate weight, creating a more drinkable young wine.
